April 23: Boilerplate Employment Documents in California: Time to Review and Update to Minimize Risk

The employment relationship generates much documentation. Oftentimes, the routine provisions in these documents are simply recycled from one document to the next and may in fact create, rather than eliminate, legal risks.
In this program, we will explore common provisions in employment documents and the danger lurking in outdated boilerplate provisions including waivers, arbitration clauses, confidentiality, non-disparagement, choice-of-law, forum selection, integration, severability, and survival clauses. We will look at best practices to update your employment documents for 2024.

March 28: HVAC & Plumbing Claims

HVAC & Plumbing Claims is a 60-minute conversation that will offer a "map-of-the terrain" perspective on design, construction, performance, defects, evaluation, maintenance, and repair, for these complex and critical building systems.
Buildings have become increasingly complex over the recent decades. "MEP", a common abbreviation for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems, are typically the most complex systems in any building. They are the systems that humans commonly interact with, often daily. When they don't work as expected, people get sad or mad. For each of these two complex systems we will explain their evolution in buildings, from nonexistent to today's intricate assemblies that are part manufactured and part site-built, how they work, and the conditions and certain failures we find.
We will explore investigation of these systems in construction defect litigation and other types of building claims, and how we have helped clients make good decisions in tough situations.
